USBP Academy Class Schedule
Updated - March 12, 2024
Important Update to Our Visitors Regarding USBP Academy Class Schedules
Dear Visitors,
For nearly 25 years, HonorFirst.com has been a proud provider of class schedules for the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, aiding those aspiring to join the Border Patrol. Our initial decision to discontinue posting these schedules was based on a conversation with Academy Chief Patrol Agent (CPA) Ryan Landrum, who expressed concerns about the sensitivity of this information.
In our pursuit to provide accurate and responsible information, we submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request (CBP-FO-2024-028748) to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for further clarity. The response we received has significantly influenced our approach to sharing this data.
The FOIA response revealed that certain details, including aspects of the class schedules, are subject to redaction under Exemption (b)(7)(E) - 5 U.S. Code § 552. This exemption is applied to protect law enforcement techniques and procedures, ensuring their effectiveness is not compromised by public disclosure.
Despite these restrictions, the FOIA response did provide some aggregate information about the training schedules. It indicates that there are scheduled to be 27 Border Patrol Agent Basic classes in the FY, training a maximum of 1,550 people, and 18 Border Patrol Processing Coordinator classes scheduled to train a maximum of 880 people. While this information does not include specific class schedules, it offers a general overview of the Academy's training capacity and frequency.
In light of this information and out of respect for the operational integrity of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, we have decided to align with the guidance provided and will not publish specific class schedules. This decision brings to an end a long-standing tradition on our site, one that we know many have valued and relied upon.
Appeal Submitted Regarding USBP Academy Class Schedules
Following the response to our FOIA request, we have submitted an appeal against the decision to withhold specific details of the class schedules. In our appeal, we emphasized the historical precedent of public availability of such schedules, the non-sensitive nature of the requested information, and the public interest in maintaining transparency about the Academy's operations. This step reflects our dedication to providing accurate and useful information, while respecting the operational integrity and security concerns of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy.
As we await a response to our appeal, we want to reassure you that HonorFirst.com remains steadfast in its support for the U.S. Border Patrol community. We will continue to provide valuable resources and information to those aspiring to join the Border Patrol, within the bounds of our ethical and legal responsibilities.
We understand that this change may be disappointing to some of our visitors who have relied on this information for many years. Please know that this decision was not made lightly and reflects our commitment to responsible information sharing.
HonorFirst.com remains dedicated to supporting those interested in serving with the U.S. Border Patrol and will continue to provide valuable resources and information within the bounds of our ethical and legal responsibilities.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
The HonorFirst.com Team
