Border Patrol Stories

A Flasher!
Chief Gus De La Vina was beloved as Chief of the USBP Academy at FLETC.  He was Chief when I went through in 1980.  There is some folklore surrounding Chief De La Vina's tenure at the academy which I believe contributes directly to the esprit de corps that existed there and carried over to the sectors.   Some of these stories I know to be true, and others were told to me by those that were there and who swear them to be true:

Chief De La Vina and his wife were invited to a costume party sponsored by the trainees.  I believe adult beverages may also have been involved.  One bonehead was dresses like a wino in a long trench coat. He walked up to Chief and Mrs. De La Vina, opens up the trench coat and flashes them! - The trousers stopped at the knees and the guy was wearing a flesh tone-ed long johns with a big pink sock for a schwanz.  The room was in horrified silence when Mrs De La Vina and then the Chief started laughing uproariously.   It was one of the funniest things the group had ever seen, but it would have gone the other way with a different Chief!
