Border Patrol Stories

El Pollo Gigante
During Operation Door Stop in Raymondville, Texas, in addition to the highway interdictions, there were raids on hotels and stash houses, train checks, and working the brush to locate aliens attempting to circumvent the Sarita checkpoint on foot through the ranches.

During one incident at night, we were using a scope truck and watching a group enter what appeared to be a cattle corral.  My partner and I were with the scope truck operator and we could see clusters of heat sources on the ground in the corral. Well, turned out that the livestock in the corral were sleeping Emus.  Many of the ranches in the area were raising exotic animals including Emus. When the aliens crawled over the fence, they woke them up and the Emus began to chase them.

As my partner and I quickly approached the corral we heard some blood curdling screams as the aliens tried to get away from the Emus.  One of the aliens was screaming, “Ayúdame, ayudarme, el pollo gigante está tratando de matarme” (Help me, Help me, the giant chicken is trying to kill me!) as he was being head butted by an Emu.

Most of the aliens had made it over the corral fence by the time we reached it, but we had to help a few over the fence.  Reminded me of a Benny Hill scene if music was put to it.   Lucky there were only a few bumps and bruises as it could have been
much worse.  Emus have very sharp claws and can jump and kick when threatened.  We ended up VRing the group of 25 very grateful aliens and had a good laugh at their expense.
