Can I use a MAC to complete the eQip?

The e-QIP cannot be done on a Macintosh computer. The software does not support it AND it is recommended to download Acrobat Reader 7.0 to avoid printing problems.

How can I avoid problems?

Do a dry run first.  Make sure your Internet, printer and scanner are all working correctly before working on eQIP.

READ AND COMPREHEND THE ENTIRE PAGE, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Before you fill anything out, before you put anything in any box, look over the entire page. Read the entire thing, including any instructions. Once you've done that and you think you have a clear understanding of what to do, proceed with filling out blanks, etc.

If you've run into a problem or don't know what to do next, RE-READ THE ENTIRE PAGE, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Assume that the problem is coming from something that you are doing incorrectly. Remember, tens of thousands of people fill out these forms annually. Of course, there have been errors in the system and there have been problems that they've had to fix at the MHC. But the vast majority of problems are applicants skimming instructions, failing to read the entire page, glancing over something important, or not engaging their brain to process what they're reading.

Foreign born US Citizen Relatives

Do you have a foreign-born relative that is a US Citizen by birth?  Are you getting a "Warning" message on eQIP and it's not letting you certify your application?  Here's how to solve it...

Go to the "Edit" page for this relative.  At the bottom of this page, it requests "Proof of Citizenship."  Click on this.  The "Proof of Citizenship" page will then offer entry fields for Naturalization Certificate, Citizenship Certificate, Alien Registration, and Other.  Enter whatever proof of citizenship you have under "Other."  It is also helpful to enter circumstances for this situation under "Additional Comments" on the "Edit" page for this relative.

For example:  If you have a sibling that was born in Iceland, but both of your parents were US Citizens, your sibling would have Iceland as their Country of Birth.  You'd need to follow the above instructions and cite either a birth certificate issued by the US Consulate (Consular Report of Birth Abroad or CRBA) in Whereveravik, or a current passport number with issuing agency and date.  Under "additional comments" you could say "Sibling born by emergency c-section while on vacation," for example.  It's a good idea to get your sibling to send you a copy of this documentation, just in case.
